چکیده

We report the results of a small-aperture uppercrustal tomography experiment conducted on the East Pacific Rise near 9ø50'N, the site of a volcanic eruption in 1991. The experiment geometry comprised 3 ocean bottom seismometers and 491 airgun shots fired in a 16 x 16 km 2 area. Twoand three-dimensional inversions indicate that the average upper crustal velocities, both on and off axis, increase by -0.2 km/s north of 9ø52'N. This location coincides with the northern limit of the 1991 eruption and of vigorous hydrothermalism. Our data can be explained by a 100 m southward increase in layer 2A thickness. On axis, previous work indicates that layer 2A thickness does not vary in this region. We infer that the sheeted dikes above the axial magma chamber are thermally segmented with the dike layer south of 9ø52'N being on average at least 300øC warmer than to the north. Off axis, layer 2A may be thicker south of 9ø52'N if a higher proportion of eruptions flow off axis.

Segment-scale variations in the crustal structure of 150–300 kyr old fast spreading oceanic crust (East Pacific Rise, 8◦15′N–10◦5′N) from wide-angle seismic refraction profiles

S U M M A R Y We have simultaneously inverted seismic refraction and wide-angle Moho reflection traveltimes for the 2-D crustal thickness and velocity structure of 150–300 kyr old crust along the East Pacific Rise (EPR) between the Siqueiros and Clipperton fracture zones (FZs). Our results show a strong correlation between ridge segmentation and upperand mid-crustal seismic velocities, with hig...

Upper Crustal Resistivity Structure of the East Pacific Rise near 13 N

_Abstract. An active source electromagnetic (EM) sounding has been conducted on the axis of the East Pacific Rise (EPR) at 13 ø 10 •N. 1D inversion and modelling techniques, seeking resistivity as a function of depth, have been applied to 8 Ilz amplitude data collected along the ridge crest. Resistivity is seen to increase monotonically between 50 m and 1 km below the seafloor, increasing from ...

Crack-induced seismic anisotropy in the oceanic crust across the East Paci¢c Rise (9330PN)

The seismic anisotropy of the shallow oceanic crust across the East Pacific Rise (9330PN) is studied with P-wave refraction data collected during a controlled-source, three-dimensional tomography experiment. The anisotropy is indicated by a cos(2a) pattern of travel time residuals, where a is the receiver to shot azimuth. The travel time data are best fit by a model containing 4% anisotropy fro...

Investigation of forward directivity effects on design spectra of industrial complexes near Assaluyeh fault

Recorded ground motions in near fault region have completely distinct nature from others that recorded in far field of the fault. Near source outcomes cause much of the seismic energy to appear in a single large and long period pulse at the beginning of the velocity record. Assaluyeh complex is located near the reverse Assaluyeh fault that is a segment of Mountain Front Fault. This complex cont...

Mantle seismic structure beneath the MELT region of the east pacific rise from P and S wave tomography

Relative travel time delays of teleseismic P and S waves, recorded during the Mantle Electromagnetic and Tomography (MELT) Experiment, have been inverted tomographically for upper-mantle structure beneath the southern East Pacific Rise. A broad zone of low seismic velocities extends beneath the rise to depths of about 200 kilometers and is centered to the west of the spreading center. The magni...
